A note from our congress chairperson Stefanie Klinge, on the theme and goals for IMCC Munich 2026:

(Revitalize) Reimagining Museums for a New Era

Museums stand at a pivotal moment. Historic institutions face the dual challenge of preserving their architectural heritage while adapting to contemporary expectations of accessibility, sustainability, and community engagement. Revitalization extends beyond physical renovation—it encompasses a fundamental reimagining of how museums function as vital public spaces in the 21st century.

"Revitalize" asks us to consider essential questions: How do we breathe new life into aging infrastructure while respecting original design intent? What role does technology play in enhancing the museum experience? How can renovations address sustainability imperatives and create more inclusive spaces? As civic society continues to experience pressure from within, how can museums provide safe places for difficult conversations?

What is the role of object-based collections in a digital world? As museums worldwide grapple with challenges from climate control systems to visitor flow and increased security risks, this congress offers a platform for sharing innovative approaches and collaborative solutions that will shape the next generation of museum experiences.

* Please, while we have a congress theme, we will accept proposals on a variety of topics. We have a list of potential topics in the proposal form.

Please contact Brian Mandrier, IMCC Managing Director, at brian@mandriergroup with any questions.

“IMCC is the place to be for museum leaders and design professionals - programs, events, network at its best!”
